Submission Guidelines
Final Manuscript Guidelines
Authors whose papers have been accepted to the symposium are strongly urged
to submit a final manuscript for publication in a special issue of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A. We ask that all final manuscripts be received before the close of the symposium: Friday, May 26, 2006.
On your My Papers page, a link is available for each accepted paper allowing you to submit a final manuscript. To ease the review process, it has been determined that all manuscripts be typed in Microsoft Word using an Elsevier defined template document (see below). While we realize this may not be convenient for some, our technical support staff is ready and willing to help you with any issues that may arise.
If you absolutely cannot use Word, we ask that you follow Elsevier's Guide for Authors and use the journal-specific directions for LaTex preparation. Note that LaTex formatted papers are still limited to 4 pages as formatted by the publisher.
All manuscripts under review will be submitted in PDF format, while reviewed and accepted manuscripts will be transmitted in Word or LaTex format only.
Technical Considerations
- Print out the User Guidelines and install the template to your templates directory.
- Limit the resolution of (or compress) your images and figures in order to reduce file size and transmission times.
Content Considerations
- Papers must not exceed 4 pages.
- Your paper must have been presented by one of the authors.
- If English is not your native language, please have your paper proofread by someone who is fluent in English in order to ease the burden on the reviewers.
- The work must be significant and original in some aspect: new concepts, new devices, new analysis of existing concepts or devices, new methods, etc.
- It is important that the work be as accurate as possible. Error in factual material, mathematical formulations or analysis should be eliminated, as well as statement of opinion as fact.
- The primary way in which the paper can differ from the standard archival journal is in the comprehensiveness or completeness of the work. If the work is not complete or is more or less a work in progress, it may be acceptable if there are original, nontrivial concepts, data, analysis etc. However, the author should clearly indicate the limitations of the work, including the future work that is still required. These should be in the introduction, discussion and conclusions.
- References should be appropriate, and not designed to give the impression that the author(s) is the only one performing valid research in a field.
- Figures and tables must be of professional quality.

The Word template above may not work with all versions of Word for Mac. Please attempt to format your submissions as close as possible to current NIM-A formatting.
Abstract / Summary Guidelines
Authors interested in giving an oral or poster presentation at the symposium
(or the DNDO topical meeting) should:
- Create an author account on this website to
manage communication and submission of research.
- Login with your email and password.
- View and manage your papers.
Paper submission entails submission of an abstract and a summary paper, the details
of which follow:
- The Abstract will be published in an abstract book available
online and in published form to symposium attendees. Your 500 word (maximum)
abstract should be a complete (yet concise) summary of your research. Abstracts
are entered into a web form, field-by-field when you add a new paper (under My
Papers).
- The Summary Paper serves two purposes: to assess the scientific
merit of your work, and to aid the symposium committee in assigning you to
a particular topic-based session. The summary paper must be
a PDF document less than 2 MB. Summary papers must not be
longer than 2 pages. Authors without direct access to PDF
creation software may wish to use a free online service such as PDF
Online or Neevia.
All abstracts and summaries are to be submitted no later than the
extended
deadline of
Wednesday, March 8, 2006.

Reviewing
Upon submission, the following actions will be taken:
- The summaries will be reviewed by the Technical Committee for content and
appropriateness to the Symposium. Authors will then be notified of the Committee's
selections.
- The abstracts of accepted papers will be published in an abstract book
provided to all registered attendees.
- Authors presenting at the symposium may submit a full paper that will be
peer reviewed for publication in Nuclear
Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A. It should contain all
figures and tables and not exceed 4 pages. Deadline for receipt of the optional final paper is Friday, May 26, 2006.
- Reviews of the final papers will be managed online.
Prompt responses are necessary to meet our goal of a 2006 publication date.
