Materials Research and Development for the
Detection of Gammas and Neutrons
(a Materials Fabrication Meeting)

We are pleased to announce the inclusion of this topical meeting initiated and sponsored by

This workshop will be held on Friday, May 26, 2006 as a supplement to the main symposium, and is intended to focus only on materials aspects of the detection problem and in particular, materials fabrication issues. Other technical contributions relevant to Homeland Security applications are also encouraged, but will be presented during dedicated sessions during the Symposium.

* Authors who physically present their work at this meeting will also have the privilege of submitting a technical paper for publication in a special issue of NIM A.

Topics

Contribution of technical papers is encouraged in any of the following (or closely related) topics:

New crystal compounds
Purification - (zone refining, vacuum distillation, etc.)
Synthesis and crystal growth techniques
Growth of large crystals
Defects and their effects on performance
Stoichiometry
Phase separation
Post-growth treatment
Temperature profile issues
Manufacturing issues and costs
Precipitates and charge carrier trapping
Scintillator materials - (La-halides and other Ce or Yb activated materials, etc.)
Room temperature semiconductor materials - (CZT, AlSb, HgI2, etc.)
Semiconductor materials - (HPGe, Si, diamond, etc.)
Neutron detecting materials - (Li-, Gd-, B-loaded materials, etc.)
Other promising materials - (scintillating semiconductors, etc.)
Surface preparation and bonding issues
Electronic packaging

Submission

When submitting your research, you will have the option to present at the main conference or this topical meeting. The Wednesday, March 8, 2006 submission deadline for main symposium sessions also applies to this topical meeting.

We look forward to your contributions. Submit a paper now.

Fees

Attendees may register for this workshop in conjunction with the symposium for a reduced fee of $50 (plus symposium cost). Registration for those wishing to only attend this meeting is set at $200.
